Job Description
Working in partnership with The IET, Jacobs Massey is proud to be supporting the recruitment of an Audiovisual Apprentice working in one of London’s most prestigious venues, IET London: Savoy Place. This is a fantastic opportunity to launch your career in the AV industry!
What Will I Be Doing?As an Audiovisual Apprentice you will learning and working with the IET’s team of AV and Senior AV Technicians, covering everything from the installation and de-rigging of temporary AV setups through to the execution of live events. You will also have the opportunity to work directly with clients, gathering their key requirements and ensuring everything is set up to their liking.
Alongside the time spent learning from your IET colleagues, you will also be enrolled in a 2-year Apprenticeship with Middlesbrough College (please note, the course is delivered remotely online) and as part of your Apprenticeship, 20% of your working will be spent directly working on your Apprenticeship programme.
Key Details:
Location: Savoy Place, London, with periodic travel to Stevenage and other UK venues as and when required
Salary: £27,500 per annum
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, which does include working 5 days out of 7 on a rota basis (which will also include working some weekends, bank holidays, early and late shifts as detailed in weekly rota). Time off in lieu will be offered where business levels allow.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• To learn, support and manage where appropriate and required the day-to-day floor operation; including setting up and operating all fixed and mobile AV equipment, digital display screens, video conferencing and production services & ensuring all facilities and services are delivered to agreed standards of procedure.
• To learn, support and manage where appropriate and required; live events, including operating the portable mixing unit, setting up wired and wireless microphones and providing sound feeds, ensuring all facilities and services are delivered to agreed standards of procedure.
• To attend and complete all required tasks, classes and assessment for the Level 5 Audiovisual Technician apprenticeship, including, but not limited to, building a portfolio of evidence and log of learning hours and activities.
• To conduct morning room checks of AV-equipped meeting rooms and provide 1st Line AV support for client-facing meeting rooms.
• To collaborate with the IET.tv and IET.it departments regarding filming, streaming, LAN and connectivity.
• To assist with AV equipment stock takes alongside the broader AV Team, provide outstanding customer service to clients, supporting, resolving and, where needed, escalating, client issues, problems and queries to the Operations Manager and AV Department Manager.
• To follow all Health and Safety rules, processes and venue procedures to protect staff, users, and guests, and ensure any issues, near misses and/or accidents are reported to the Operations Manager and AV Department Manager where appropriate.
• To complete all Fire Marshal duties (full training will be provided)
• To complete any other duties at the request of the AV Department Manager as is reasonable as per the skill and experience of the post-holder
Skills and Experience Required:
• GCSE, or equivalent, Maths and English (Grade 4) qualifications, and NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or equivalent (Any Subject (Grade Pass)) are essential.
• Strong interest or experience in general IT connectivity, lighting and control systems, LAN networks, and AV software packages.
• Calm and professional approach with excellent customer service skills.
• Strong communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Flexibility with working hours, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
Please note, due to the entry requirements of the Apprenticeship, the successful candidate must be aged 18 years or over when the Apprenticeship course commences.
