Job Description
We are searching for an experienced Broadcast Engineer. In this capacity, the ideal candidate would represent the our clients brand as an implanted team member for a well-known technology company in a newly renovated digital studio. The Broadcast Engineer will have a real passion for how technology can enhance productions. They will engage in the commissioning and the maintenance of the systems that drive the digital studio.
The role requires the ability to work effectively with many types of people within the digital studio including a variety of internal clients and third party production teams. We’re looking for a Broadcast Engineer with hands-on production experience who can provide technical support and guidance to digital productions and events at all levels. The role includes acting as a liaison to clients and managing day-to-day operations of equipment and production staff and to become a reference for systems when questions and issues arise.The role also requires flexibility to occasionally work outside of traditional office hours depending on demand and production requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Overall Responsibility for the health of technical infrastructure in a broadcast studio
● Conducts tier 1 break/fix maintenance to production infrastructure and inventory in the facility
● Manage client expectations on tech-related issues
● Setup and monitor facility routing between event spaces and main Control Rooms
● Design, test, evaluate and install new circuitry/equipment for use in the facility
● Assists productions with routing their equipment to the studio’s infrastructure
● Act as an A1 or Vision mixer when required
● Oversees load-in of 3rd party productions to ensure electrical tie ins and rigging is within safe parameters
● Oversee the commissioning of complex audio, video, lighting, and networking at a complex production facility
● Ensure that production equipment is running the latest versions of software/firmware to enable new features
● Identify suitable workaround when equipment has failed to ensure continuity of the service
● Ensure all systems and equipment are properly calibrated, configured, and installed for the first day of business
● Serve as the SME for the facility on all event technology related issues
● Provide high level technical support to resolve complex technical issues involving audio, video, IT, media management, digital signage / experiential, signal encoding, broadcasting, etc.
● Create and drive SOP’s to ensure maximum efficiency and utilization of audio video systems
● Partner with key stakeholders to create efficient operational workflows for custom CMS, media storage, audio, video, IT, media management, digital signage / experiential, signal encoding, broadcasting, etc.
● Provide high level engineering consultation on changes, or updates needed to keep the facility operating at maximum capacity and ability
● Create and maintain technical documentation for all equipment and systems at the facility
● Project manages integration and on-site break-fix vendor visits
● Create and action a preventative maintenance plan to ensure the health and stability of event technology equipment and systems for the entire facility
● Develop and apply remote access and workflows in the event of catastrophic closures
● Serve as the liaison between manufacturers and service providers for all support matters
● Help enhance the user experience utilizing available engineering resources
● Produce and update technical documentation
● Keep up-to-date with the industry and changes in technology by building and maintaining a network of contacts and investigating new systems and techniques
● Act as a teacher and mentor to a staff of event techs and ops.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● 5+ years in broadcast engineering roles, specifically focused on live broadcast or post production facilities.
● Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required
o Preferably in a tech-related field
● Experience setting and configuration of new technology, including documentation and training as well as system maintenance, patching and upgrades.
● Firm grasp of mixing audio for FOH, broadcast/record, and monitor applications
● Experience working with some or all of the following products, Yamaha, Dante, L’ Acoustic, QSC DSP, Riedel Artist and Bolero systems,LAWO, Avid, Shure Wireless
● Past experience managing access control permissions for production equipment, ingest servers, and systems in addition to inventory and configuration documentation.
● Highly skilled at broadcast Routing & Production Switcher Configurations, Audio DSP configurations and tuning, and running production control stations on KVM.
● In depth understanding of TCP/IP networking
● Routing and troubleshooting production Intercoms for a large facility.
● Management of ingest and play-out devices and shared storage management (NAS).
● Work closely with others to maintain the overall health of adjacent and dependent systems
● Experience serving as the point of contact for network related issues and also operate as EIC (Engineer in Charge) during high profile broadcasts.
● Experience stepping in to production operation roles as needed (A1, V1, TD, camera operator, etc)
● Rigging experience a plus
● Ability to read, understand, and write technical documentation, AutoCAD (or equivalent) skills would be beneficial
● Experience with tier 1 break fix for AV routers, production switchers, audio consoles and stage boxes, lighting rigs, cinema and broadcast cameras and accessories, and chain hoist systems.
● Deep understanding of front line maintenance and diagnostics on networked environments
● Excellent face to face communication as well as written skills
● Excellent analytical/troubleshooting practices and attention to detail
● Ability to take a service-oriented approach to this position, with a desire to help clients achieve their best result
● Ability to remain calm under pressure in an "On-Air" environment
● Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize critical elements in the workflow
● Ability to work well within a team
ADMINISTRATION & GENERAL:
● Assume responsibility for own environment, ensuring adherence to health and safety policies while having clean smart surroundings
● Work intelligently and ensure that team management is aware of problems or issues which negatively affect productivity
