Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Film & Audio Production Technician in our clients Film, Television and Radio Department. We are looking for a dynamic technician /practitioner with expertise in a range of film, broadcast and professional audio visual areas. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of high-profile practitioners, theatre researchers and researcher-practitioners. You will contribute to the delivery and enhancement of our audio visual offer within the taught courses by our client.
Key Responsibilities• Assist the Head of Film, TV and Radio with the development and delivery of the curriculum to ensure high quality training in technical and production aspects of film and television making.
• Support and develop relationships to strengthen our clients access aims, including leadership in equality and diversity in the learning environment.
• Deliver high quality teaching, ensuring curriculum design, assessment and feedback, and pedagogy is appropriate and complies with the quality standards and regulations.
• Assist with the selection of appropriate assessment instruments and criteria, assess the work and progress of students by reference to the criteria and provide constructive feedback to students.
• Assist in monitoring the development of students within the TV and Film areas, ensuring that regular and detailed assessment and feedback is provided, including the provision of remedial/tailored tuition as required.
• Contribute to the organisation and planning of all responsibilities undertaken by the department.
• Assist on the film production process as required in the making of the 3rd year films and filmed content.
• Identify and realise opportunities for students to further engage with the Film, Television and Radio department.
• Advise and support acting students with the technical aspects of self-taping and the production of showreel material.
• Assist teaching staff and visiting lecturers when necessary with camera use and other audio-visual support.
• Managing and maintaining an in-house booking system.
• Assist the Head of Film, TV and Radio department to ensure the smooth running of the department.
• Maintain department equipment - camera, lighting, microphones, grip gear, editing hardware, software, etc. and advise on repairs, replacements and upgrades as necessary.
• Ensure classrooms are set up/equipment removed and provided with necessary kit for all teaching requirements.
• Attend meetings as required.
Strategic and long term planning
• Support and develop relationships to strengthen client’s strategic aims, including in equality and diversity and industry leadership.
• Remain up to date with industry practices and developments to ensure technical training and acting student advice remain at the forefront of the industry.
• Make technical recommendations and present ideas for possible approval or development.
• Engage with colleagues in acting, technical and MA programmes to ensure an integrated and coherent approach to the delivery of Film, TV and Radio training with reference to developments in all departments.
• Shoot and edit film content for our client’s promotional use, working to agreed briefs, budget and timescales supplied by and overseen by the Communications & Marketing department e.g. talks, Graduate/Special Guest masterclasses, Q&A’s.
• Shoot creative B-ROLL footage throughout the year for use in promotional film content. Maintain and develop ongoing asset, archive and database library.
• Liaise in the capture of theatrical productions for promotional purposes.
• Shoot and edit photography including behind the scenes portraits, groups, presentations and large events as required to keep as archive footage for future use.
Skills/abilities/ competencies
Essential
• Proficient in self-shooting using cameras and sound equipment to shoot footage as well as setting up equipment such as lighting, sound and backdrops.
• Proficient in managing production workflow i.e. data wrangling - offloading and backing up footage, excellent editing skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Desirable
• Final Cut Pro
• Adobe Premiere CC
• Adobe Photoshop
• Adobe Lightroom
• Adobe After Effects
• SketchUp
• Cinema 4D
Experience
Essential
• Experience in film production including understanding of budgets, production and timeframes in addition to practical shooting experience and editing.
• Experience in creating digital content (video idents, promotional films) for promotional purposes.
• Several years’ experience in Audio Visual in a similar role within a conservatoire setting Media AV production, film production dept or other related subject qualification or equivalent practical on the job experience
• Experience of managing online content and databases
Desirable
• Experience of working in an HEI actor training conservatoire establishment.
• Experience of working around actors, crew, postproduction VFX/SFX.
