Job Description
This is a rare opportunity to work directly for a an end-user organisation delivering live events. They seek an AV Technician with specific interest performance media & creative technology.
Purpose of job:Ensure the success of live events by delivering a high-standard of audio-visual technical support.
Main Activities/Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver the technical elements of live events
Capture the requirements of the customer.
Calculate the resources necessary to deliver the event, mitigating risk while remaining within budget.
Advise the customer on the cost and feasibility of the event and obtain their approval.
Produce documentation, including graphical layout plans and prepare comprehensive briefings for staff delivering event requirements.
Hire the equipment and external AV technicians required to deliver the event.
Liaise with performers and speakers about technology and media that they want to use.
Book film prints, tapes or other media; protect media whilst in care.
Prepare the media to be presented in advance of the event.
Assure stakeholders that all technical elements of an event are well prepared and rehearsed.
Co-ordinate activities between multiple spaces during more complex events.
Provide technical support yourself, including;
Live sound mixing.
Projecting 16mm film, 35mm slides, video and digital media.
Record events for the archive (audio / video).
Set up and break down equipment in temporary event spaces.
External Suppliers:
Provide detailed training to new freelance AV technicians – brief them about the organization, the way events are run, the facilities in the auditoria and provide health & safety induction training.
Supervise external AV technicians while they are on site; take responsibility for their safety and ensure they observe H&S good practices.
Evaluate the performance of external AV technicians and suppliers.
Manage the relationship with equipment vendors and hire suppliers.
Manage the AV Infrastructure:
Advise management on the strategic development of the AV infrastructure in the auditoria
Ensure the AV equipment is well kept, clean, well-maintained and documented.
Monitor the performance of the existing equipment and recommend new investment.
Financial:
Exercise financial responsibility – to ensure that the organization money is spent effectively to the greatest benefit of the event programme.
Person Specification
Essential:
Highly evolved skills using audio-visual technologies including image display, audio, lighting, stage and set, with media including Audio, Film, Video and Digital.
Proven ability to deliver complex events such as conferences or screenings for example.
Excellent interpersonal skills - the ability to deal effectively and confidently with a wide range of people at all levels inside or outside of the organization.
Strong organisational skills – the ability to prioritise a varied workload and work accurately under pressure to meet deadlines.
Wide-ranging experience in client liaison in different sectors and the ability to deal sensitively with performers and talent.
Good team working skills – the ability to establish effective and mutually supporting working relationships with other departments inside and outside organization.
Experience of procuring equipment and services, including wet/dry hire.
An ability to work under own initiative and a willingness to provide solutions to technical problems as they arise.
Experience of devising and operating a maintenance regime for AV equipment.
Good Mac/Windows IT skills, including Word, Excel and email and graphics/video/3D design applications.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of colleagues and treat all colleagues with dignity and respect.
An interest in and commitment to the work of the role.
Desirable:
Good understanding of the special requirements for the presentation of creative technology.
Hours:
Due to the nature of this role the successful applicant will be required to undertake regular out of hours working in the early mornings, evenings, weekends and bank holidays in order to cover the AV requirements for the events programme.
