Job Description
We have an amazing opportunity working directly for a well-respected museum in central London. Our client is looking for an AV/IT Technician for a 6 month fixed term contract, to provide 1st and 2nd line technical support for AV/IT hardware, software & telephony across the Museum’s commercial network and support our clients gallery spaces.
- To ensure that the technical and physical preparations for all Commercial Event functions are completed in accordance with the contractual agreements with clients.- To manage all technical and physical matters relating to filming and photoshoots and provide technical support where required.
- To provide technical support for commercial events and, where appropriate, the Museum, at exhibitions and events.
- To Install new IT / AV hardware and setup new user profiles and equipment.
- To proactively monitor IT / AV systems remotely. Create, assign, respond to Support Tickets relating to IT and AV issues.
- Manage and oversee the work of external contractors in relation to new installations of AV equipment in the Museum. Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including CDM, WEEE, DDA and Health & Safety as appropriate
- To liaise with the Estates team and Site Health and Safety staff to ensure health and safety procedures and museum working practices and standards are followed and complied with especially in relation to working with external parties during the setting up and running of commercial events.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Commercial Events
- Ensure all physical and technical preparations for commercial event functions and client site visits are completed on time.
- Where appropriate, establish needs for each event through direct contact with nominees of clients.
- Be in attendance during commercial event functions to operate audio-visual / technical equipment if so required. Where appropriate to liaise with contractors / exhibitors to ensure smooth and safe running of each event.
- Ensure that the supplies of support materials and technical equipment are maintained to sufficient levels and in serviceable condition. As required, raise purchase orders in line with Museum’s accounting procedures.
- To carry out Risk Assessments for each commercial event in compliance with Health and Safety Policy and Procedures.
- To act in the absence of Commercial Events Manager during a commercial event.
Film and Photo Shoots
- Provide on-scene supervision of film and photoshoots as required.
- To carry out Risk Assessments for each film and photo shoot activity in compliance with Health and Safety Policy and Procedures.
IT
- Provide 1st and 2nd line technical support for IT hardware, software & telephony across the Museum’s commercial network, AV and gallery interactives, in a timely manner.
- Provide basic Desktop support and Account profile troubleshooting
- Install new IT / AV hardware and setup new user profiles and equipment, when required.
- Monitoring of IT / AV systems remotely. Create, assign, respond to Support Tickets relating to IT and AV issues.
- Manage and oversee the work of external contractors in relation to new installations of AV equipment in the Museum. Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including CDM, WEEE, DDA and Health & Safety as appropriate
Museum Events
- To work alongside, and occasionally cover for, the Museum AV Technician with preparations for Museum on-site events where relevant.
General Duties
- Support the work of the IT Department in conjunction with the Commercial Events Team.
- Represent the Museum in a professional manner at all times.
- Undertake all responsibilities in accordance with Museum procedures.
- Operate lifting platforms / other machinery as required.
- Undertake all reasonable additional duties as specified by Head of IT, Commercial Events Manager or other senior staff.
Budgets and Resources
- Delegated budgetary responsibility for specified budgets and pre-set limits.
- Reduce operational costs and maximize resources while maintaining standards of products and services.
Policies and Procedures
- Uphold both the spirit and letter of the Museums Association’s Code of Ethics
- Comply with Health and Safety legislation
- Adhere to organisational policies and procedures to protect people, the collections and the Museum’s reputation
- Professionally challenge procedures that do not add value to the organisation.

- Demonstrate the Museum’s values in all day to day interactions with colleagues, working as a positive influence and role model, and acting with integrity and professionalism.
- Protect the reputation of the Museum
Hours
- This is a full-time (40 hours per week, including a one hour lunch break), fixed-term position
- You will work any five days in seven, including regular weekends, early mornings, evenings and occasionally overnight
